The official Blackberry Desktop Software allows you to back up your Blackberry device enabling you to recover the data in case of a device failure or an accidental deletion.
Solving this issue is exactly the purpose of the Blackberry Backup Extractor application. Its simple interface lets you choose a backup (that you can usually find in the folder C:\Users\USER_NAME\Documents\BlackBerry\Backup) and extract files from it. It works with both IPD and BBB files, it does not, however, work with Blackberry 10 backups just yet, which is why I decided to deduct one star from the app's rating.
After you select a backup, you are offered to extract either a particular category of data (contacts, SMS, calls, etc.) or the whole thing, which is convenient. The program can convert the data to multiple formats including CSV, VCard, or ICAL, so you have the option to import it to other programs that work with these formats.
To sum it all up, BlackBerry Backup Extractor is a handy tool that will allow you to easily extract data from Blackberry backups. However, if you are a Blackberry 10 user or do not want to pay that much for single-use software, then you might want to look for alternatives.
Pros
- Can handle BBB and IPD files
- Well-designed interface
- You can choose to extract a particular type of data
Cons
- No Blackberry 10 support
- Expensive for one-time use
- Selecting a backup requires you to know its path
Correct, when you have a Z 10 this is not a solution for you.
Good for some but not compatible with the backup BlackBerry 10. My phone is BlackBerry Z10.
